Alberta is home to more than 300 life science companies with more than $1 billion in revenues and 15,000 direct and indirect jobs. Of these, about 53 companies are working at adding value to biomass, in industrial biotechnology and bioprocessing, or in the bioindustrial space. Alberta has invested heavily into infrastructure for research, development and commercialization, to ensure sustainability and long-term success. This capacity helps the province attract and retain top talent, and support a growing bioindustrial sector. The province is home to some of the richest agricultural land, energy and forest resources in the world.
